About

Daniel Parraghy

Principal & Applied Systems and Organizational Scientist — Parraghy Advisory, Switzerland. Board member across five companies. Author of On Complex Systems.

Parraghy Advisory was founded in Switzerland in July 2024. Its principal, Daniel Parraghy, brings seventeen years of direct operational experience across more than seventy organizations — as a serial entrepreneur, fractional executive, and now as an applied systems and organizational scientist advising boards and c-suites.

That breadth is not incidental. The work consistently spans different industries, ownership structures, growth stages, and regulatory contexts — because the foundational questions about how organizations make decisions, design governance, and allocate authority do not change with the sector. The lens does not, either: general systems theory and organizational theory, applied not as abstraction but as a working methodology for understanding what a given system actually produces and why.

The core service is an advisory mandate or a board seat — sharing responsibility for the strategic long-term development and governance of the organizations Parraghy Advisory serves. Where specific questions arise within that scope, the engagement provides strategic input to support board-level and c-level decision-making. Focused sessions and diagnostics are available as entry points for those not yet ready for a longer engagement.

Business Transformation, Integrations & Fractional Executive Leadership

Provided strategic, technical, and product leadership to startups and scale-ups that needed executive-level capability without a full-time hire — serving as fractional Chief Strategy, Technology, and Product Officer across a wide range of sectors, growth stages, and business models.

Alongside that work, led large-scale business transformations and integrations for established organizations, including a multi-year digital transformation program for a globally active company in the HORECA luxury segment. Also held a senior operational role within a multi-brand international holding structure, navigating the organizational and governance complexity that comes with that kind of setup.

During this period, served over two years in UN/NATO peacekeeping missions through the Swiss Armed Forces International Command (SWISSINT), deployed abroad on a voluntary basis.

Fractional CTO & CPO — Startups, Santa Barbara & Europe

Served as fractional chief technology and product officer to startups across multiple deep-tech and consumer sectors. One of the minimum viable products developed — in PropSecTech — was acquired by an incumbent 21 months after development began.

Swiss Armed Forces — Mandatory Service

Completed mandatory military service, rising to Sergeant OR-6. Joint-led a 60+ recruit platoon for 21 weeks. Served additionally as Commander of a Mowag Piranha Spz 93 wheeled armored personnel carrier and of the Guard.

It was also during this period — roughly 2011 to 2012 — that he first encountered general systems theory and organizational theory. At the time, he had been seriously considering studying biochemistry or material science and becoming a sciencepreneur. The sciences had been a persistent interest long before: he is a biochem, physical chemistry, and neuroscience nerd by inclination, and the curiosity that had driven him to take apart machines and write code as a child had gradually extended into how biological and chemical systems function. General systems theory provided the conceptual bridge — a framework that could hold all of it together.

Entering the Workforce — Sales, First Ventures & First Exit

Entered the workforce at 18 in commission-only sales to live on his own terms — first at a Swiss health insurer, then at an insurance firm selling Pillar 3b pension products. While selling, launched a first software venture under Parraghy Consulting: FlipIt, a reselling platform. It did not work out.

Shortly after, while working at a private equity firm, he started a second venture immediately: CVID, a video-based client identity verification solution for banks, insurers, and telecom providers. Five months after founding, CVID was acquired by a major telecom provider. The PE work provided an early grounding in capital allocation, investor dynamics, and the gap between financial models and organizational reality.

Formative Years — Machines, Code & Scientific Curiosity

At nine years old, he took apart his mother's computer to understand how it worked. Two years later, at eleven, he started learning to code — beginning with ActionScript — and spent most of his teens writing software. The drive was not primarily commercial; it was the same impulse that had led him to dismantle the machine in the first place: an insatiable need to understand how things function from the inside out.

Alongside the technical interest, a fascination with the natural sciences ran in parallel — biochemistry, physical chemistry, and neuroscience in particular. How biological systems process information, how molecular structures determine function, how the brain constructs cognition: these questions occupied him well before they had any professional relevance. That curiosity would eventually connect to general systems theory, and from there to the work he does today.
